    A Blue Christmas without you.

Post by Raphael on Fri Feb 18, 2011 2:25 am

Raphael had been laying unconscious for days in that bedroom in Lexi's beach house. Though he certainly wouldn't know that, the mere moments that he had been awake during the rescue were a blur and confused him. Especially when he attacked the vet that was only trying to help him and had shoved Lexi away, he couldn't remember why it was he had done it but right now it was the only reality he had to cling to.

He wasn't very responsive over the past three days though his body tensed and he would squirm showing that he in fact was being tortured from his own mind. The nightmares never seemed to stop coming and relief was only felt when Lexi smothered him with affection. At least he thought it was her... he wasn't very sure anymore.

Raphael now had his eyes on his tormentor, Bishop who stood over him once more with a wicked grin and a saw placed in his hand. Raphael struggled again to break free but as the tip of the saw pierced through his plastron his eyes flew open. A startled raspy yell emanated from his throat as his eyes darted around, taking in his new surroundings.

He felt as if he could barely move but soon noticed he was in a bed instead of strapped to a cold table. His fingers moved under the covers, feeling the soft sheets and blanket that covered him. He could see sunlight coming through the elaborate curtains that hung over a nearby window but had no way of knowing what day it was, or even the fact that he had slept til Christmas..

Leo had been traveling back and fourth, from Lexi's home to the lair. He wished that everyone was together, but understood that his brother's weren't well enough to be traveling around.

But now it was Christmas. And he wanted his family together. He was at Lexi's place, outside meditating. Trying calm his mind and heal his body.

He took in the cold morning air, breathing deeply. The air was so much cleaner here, the area quiet and safe. It almost made him never want to live in the lair again. But as great as everything was here outside the city, the city and the lair would always be home.

Leo stood outside until he couldn't take the cold any longer. He then headed back inside the house and rubbed him arms. April had left that morning to go shopping, so he grabbed the coffee maker and started making coffee for everyone.

Lexi had remained faithfully at Raphael's side. She had to leave on a few occasions, but always made sure that Leo was there with him. She was grateful that Leo, Casey and April were staying with her. This was difficult, but it made it a little easier to have support.

As much as she wanted to spend every second with Raph, there were a few necessities that needed to be done. She had to go pick up Jake, and visited with Gabriel and Serenity for a while. Unfortunately, Gabe had been sleeping during her visit, but she could see an improvement in him. She was so thankful for Serenity, and all that the woman was doing for him. Gabe deserved a happy ending, and she hoped that he was being given another chance at life.

After her visit with Gabe and Serenity, Lexi headed to the hospital where Laz had been admitted. Like Gabe, Laz was out of it, but she stayed with him for a while, and had a small chat with Rose. She was a nice girl, and she was happy that she was there for her best friend. Though, part of her was a little jealous, if she was to be honest with herself. She put in orders for Laz to be transferred to the hospital's VIP suite. She also insisted that guards be stationed outside his room at all times. She knew that Hun was probably after him, but she would do everything within her power to keep him safe, just as she had done with Gabe.

Once she left the hospital, She headed to Laz' placed to grab her purse from his Nissan, which still held Raph's most prized possessions... his Sais.

That was two days ago. With all of her errands behind her, Lexi returned to Raphael's side. She was now curled up beside him once again, fighting the fatigue that threatened to pull her under. But she was startled awake by Raph's raspy scream. She shifted her head to look at him, overjoyed that his eyes were finally open. She had feared that she would never see those eyes again. But it broke her heart to see the torment that reflected from his deep brown gaze. She nuzzled and kissed him as she caressed his cheeks and whispered reassurances.

"It's okay, babe.. you're safe now.."

Raphael was startled by her sudden touch and couldn't believe he didn't notice her next to him. He was still pretty dazed but was getting a better grip on himself as he took deep calming breaths. He nuzzled Lexi back with his snout and made a weak attempt to reach for her with his arm. He was so happy that she was there and it helped ease his fears.

"Wha'.. happened? Where am I?!" He asked as he began to cough due to his dry throat. He felt like hell and still wasn't quite sure what had happened after the laboratory..

Leo took two mugs filled with coffee to Lexi's room. He couldn't stop the smile from spreading on his face when he saw Raph awake.

"Morning." He greeted them both and handed Lexi one of the mugs.

Lexi snuggled into his arm, returning the nuzzles and pressing gentle, soft kisses all over his face. She was so relieved right now. It was the most responsive he had been in days. The perfect Christmas present. "You.. were hurt really badly." She told him, not wanting to mention the laboratory. Obviously he was reliving it in his nightmares.

"But we got you out of that awful place, and now you're safe." She told him. "You're home."

She smiled up at Leo and took the offered mug, then looked back down at Raph. "Leo's here. Are you thirsty?"

Raphael managed a small grin as Lexi lavished him with affection and if he could move he would return the gesture. But right now he could barely move his body which he was really regretting at the moment. He was aware of the events that happened before he ended up on the Tower roof and was grateful that she didn't mention the Lab, it was something he didn't want to talk about at all.

But she told him that he was at home and this certainly didn't look like the damp, dark sewers. "Home..?" He said aloud more to himself then her it seemed like such a strange word to him. It had just been so long since he had felt safe.

It didn't even seem to cross his mind that Leonardo was in the room til Lexi mentioned him. Raphael turned his head to look at him and he almost couldn't believe that he was there, alive and well. The last time he had seen him..or any of his brothers was through the bars in the dungeon. At that time he was certain that they would all be killed..

But it seemed fate had other things in mind but at the thought of his other brothers he couldn't help but ask about them. "Wha'.." He began to cough loudly but still tried to continue. "Mik..Don an'.." He couldn't finish, he obviously needed some water. It had been three days since he had, had a drink.

Leo sat beside the bed as Raph tried to speak. "They're fine and back at the lair. A little beat up, but we'll all live"

Leo went to the bathroom and came back out with a glass of water for Raph. "I was thinking of calling and seeing if they were ok enough to come over. If that's ok with Lexi. I think it would be nice to spend Christmas together."

Raphael was relieved at Leonardo's answer, when he said 'all' Raphael assumed that it meant that Splinter was okay as well. The coughing was really irritating his plastron and he quickly grabbed the glass of water and started guzzling it down. He never thought that water could taste so good.

He listened to Leonardo as he spoke but something he said caused Raphael to choke on his water which made it splatter all over the blanket that covered him. "Chri..stmas..?!"He managed to cough out in a shocked tone. He couldn't believe he was out that long. He had nothing ready, hell he didn't even get his gifts yet.

"Yeah.. you're at my new place." Lexi clarified. She caressed his cheek, and listened to the small conversation between Leo and Raph. She smiled when Leo suggested that the others come here for Christmas. She knew it would do Raph a world of good to have all of his brothers close. "Yeah, it's fine with me." She assured him.

Her attention shifted back to Raph, hearing his obvious shock over what day it was. She leaned down, pressing a kiss against his snout. "Yeah, it's Christmas, babe. You've been out for three days."

Raphael was still stunned that he had managed to sleep that long but had no choice but to except it. He then handed over the nearly empty glass of water to Leonardo as he began to pull the wet blanket off himself. It wasn't until then that he was faced with the aftermath that had been the center of his nightmares for days.

He ran his finger over the patched up wound and winced, he was still pretty tender. It even hurt just to move his shoulders around but he would be damned to just lay there. He then propped himself up on his elbows and with a bit of difficulty and sat himself upright with his shell leaning against the wall. He tried hard to grint his teeth and hide the pain but his features gave it away.

Raphael remained silent though and couldn't seem to stop glancing down at his plastron that was torn to pieces. He wasn't much for vanity but was still pissed off that he now had something else that added to the fact that he looked like some kind of monster. His whole life he took pride in his strength and his ability to protect his loved ones, but all that had been striped away from him.

He would most likely keep all his emotions bottled up as he always did, he had to be the strong one for his family and especially for Lexi. She had been a complete wreak for the past month and he wouldn't dare show any weakness to her. Though right now his body was fighting him to remain still. The inside of his chest felt heavy as a dull pain soon became sharp. "Agggh..damn!" He said as he clenched at his plastron angrily.

Lexi's heart was breaking as she watched the way Raph touched his plastron, knowing what must have been going through his head. His body had been mangled, and he had been violated... all because of what he was. She had to brush the tears from her eyes as she moved closer to him, leaning back against the wall beside him.

As carefully as she could, she placed an arm around him, wishing she could take the pain away. "Is there anything I can do? Do you need something for the pain?"

Raphael tensed but was happy that she was so close, he was in a lot of pain but noticed that it was taking a toll on her. So he tried to keep his painful responses to himself but that was easier said then done, especially with his injuries.

He forced a pained smile at her in hopes that she would feel better. He was alive after all and that should be all that mattered.

He gave a weak nod at her question but didn't expect her to have anything stronger then Tylenol. "Yea.. that'd work." He said, Tylenol had to be better then nothing.

Lexi rested her cheek against his shoulder, and gently caressed his arm, wishing that there was something she could do to take away the pain. She knew he was struggling to be strong, but she could sense the inward struggle he was dealing with. Tylenol wouldn't touch the pain. He needed something strong, and while Lin would've seemed the more obvious choice to get drugs from, her own personal supplier was the first to come to mind.

Still remaining close by Raph's side, Lexi reached for her phone to call Ace, but was interrupted by an incoming call. "Hey.." She greeted, recognizing Serenity's number...

    Seren wrote:

"Hey." Serenity greeted back. She spared Gabe a smile. "So...Gabe's up and talking. They took the tube out. And...He wants to leave." She paused a moment before continuing.

"I know it's soon. But, I hate for him to be someplace he's not comfortable in. It's not good for the healing process. If you give the ok. I can bring him to a cabin outside the city, i'll gladly pay for at home care for him. He'll be taken care of I promise."

"He's.. talking?" A much needed smile spread across Lexi's lips. She really wished she could be there now, but Raph needed her here. It was a difficult situation to be in. Having three loved ones, all severely injured and spread so far apart.

Through her happiness, it slowly registered what Serenity was telling her. Gabe was wanting to leave the hospital. Her smile began to falter. "What... did the doctor say? Is he strong enough to leave?" She asked, already knowing the answer to that. He was just taken off the machines. He had been immobile for months. His muscles were weak. Not to mention, he had suffered a pretty serious brain injury.

"He has a phobia of hospitals." She told Serenity. "Long story." She heard Serenity's offer, but as much as she liked the girl, she didn't feel comfortable with him being anywhere but with her.. where she could watch him. Protect him. And hopefully work with helping him remember his past. "We'll talk about it when I get there." She told Serenity, not wanting to discuss her concerns over the phone. "I'll be there as soon as I can." But first, she would have to get Raph taken care of, and make sure he would be okay without her for a little while.

Serenity wrote:"I haven't talked to the doctor yet." She told Lexi. she gave an unseen nod. "Ok, but hurry." She told her. After saying her goodbyes she hung up and looked at Gabe.

"She's busy, but will be here as soon as she could. Think you can hold on till then?" She asked Gabe. But she was also trying to think of a way to go around Lexi.

Serenity knew that Gabe really should stay in the hospital. But, if she had to be honest. both of them would probably be better off if he got out, and she took him and Jigs home.

Lexi also said her goodbyes, then looked over at Raph. She wanted to share the good news, but then remembered, Raph wasn't even aware that Gabriel was still alive. "There's something I've been wanting to tell you, babe." She began, a small grin tugging across her lips.

    "Gabriel is alive..."

Raphael closed his eyes as she began to caress his arm, it did little to distract him from the pain but was soothing to him. It was moments like this that he had missed the most. He half listened to her phone conversation and couldn't make a bit of sense out of it.

So he just sat there and waited but as soon as she got off the phone she explained that there was something she had been meaning to tell him. He was anxious to hear it but nearly went in complete shock as she spoke. He wondered if he had heard her correctly or if he had dozed off and was suddenly in some backwards universe again.

His breath caught in his throat but he soon regained himself and seemed more confused then anything. "What..?!" He asked, completely dumbfounded. It was all that she had been suffering over the past two months.. He watched Gabe die in her arms and it had been one of his lowest moments watching her scream and cry over him at the docks. All because he had failed to get to him in time. Though Raphael never cared much for the guy.

Lexi knew it was a lot to take in, and had expected that response. "Yeah. They were able to revive him once they got to the hospital, but the police and the doctors thought that his 'mother' should keep his survival secret, and have everyone believe he was dead to keep the Turks from finishing their job." She informed him. "But his mom bailed on him soon after."

"He's been in a coma for two months, and just woke up a few days ago. He doesn't remember anything... or anyone." She rested her head against Raph's shoulder. "He's not strong enough.. but he wants to leave the hospital. And I know he'll hurt himself trying to do just that." She paused, knowing that Raph wasn't particularly fond of Gabriel. "I want to bring him here, so he can recover. So he will be safe from the gangs. Think you can tolerate him for a few months?"

It was certainly a lot to take in and his worn out mind tried its best to piece it together. He slightly nodded as she explained and figured the details weren't to important. Gabe was alive and it certainly sounded like one of Splinters soap opera shows that he would bore them with every once in a while.

But the next thing he heard from Lexi made him feel worse. It was bad enough that he had to put up with Laz... but now her ex-fiance was back from the dead, to live with her as well?! He just couldn't catch a break. Raphael grumbled under his breath which showed that he was obviously not happy about it but then again he knew of Lexi's overly caring nature and already figured that he wouldn't have a choice in the matter.

Lexi knew that Raph wasn't happy with her decision to bring Gabriel here, but it was the only way she could keep him safe. "I know you don't like him, babe. But I want to make sure the Turks don't finish him off. A cop told Mikko he's alive, so it's only a matter of time before the gangs know." Part of her knew that she couldn't keep him safe forever, but while he was still weak, she wanted him close.

"Plus, he's going to need someone to help him with getting his memory back. I've known him since he was a teenager. I know most of his life." She was sure that none of this was making Raph feel any better. She squeezed his thigh, and kissed his cheek. "It's only for a little while, babe. Til he's back on his feet."

She reached for her phone, remembering that Raph needed some medication. "I'm going to get you some pain killers.." She told him, and dialed Ace's number...

"Babe.. I need to go take care of some things at the hospital, and get your meds. Will you be okay for about an hour?" She didn't want to leave him, but at least Leo would be here with him.

It certainly didn't make him feel better no matter how Lexi put it, he didn't like the fact that Gabe was coming to live here for a while. He then listened as Lexi was on the phone but didn't like the sound of it at all. He could tell she was talking to a dealer and it of course caused him to worry about her. He didn't want her to leave, he was in so much pain and had just woken up.

He reached his hand out and held onto her hand but even this caused him some pain. He took a deep breath and stifled his groans but he managed to grip her hand firmly.

"Ya don't need to mess wit' no dealer, I'm fine... aggghh!" He lied of course and the end of his sentence gave it away.

But Lexi wasn't convinced. She placed a hand on his, returning his squeeze. "You're not fine, Raph." She replied, meeting his gaze. "I wouldn't deal with anyone that I didn't trust." She tried to assure him. True, she didn't know Ace on a personal level, but his 'product' had gotten her through a really difficult point in her life.

It broke her heart to leave him, but there were things that needed to be tended to. She had other responsibilities, too. She looked around, trying to find the eldest turtle. She didn't want to leave Raph's side until his brother was right there with him.

"Leo?" She called out, hopefully loud enough for him to hear...
