    Misery in Paradise

    Post by April O'Neil on Fri May 03, 2013 12:26 pm

    ((Continues from: Back Home))

    April was very happy when Casey finally showed up at the hospital. She moved them to an area with a couch and snuggled up against him the whole night. They talked about their future, and about the guys. they talked about what kind of home they wanted to live in and even mentioned kids, though April wasn't quite ready for that step just yet.

    She slept laying on the couch, her head in Casey's lap. She had woken up a few times early that morning but didn't feel like getting up. Finally she opened her eyes again and looked up at the clock. 9am. It was time to get up and see how the girls were doing. She would also have to get breakfast for her and Casey.

    She pushed herself up and smiled at Casey, giving his cheek a kiss. She then stood up and streatched her arms.

    "I'm going to look for a doctor and see how the girls are doing."

    Unfortunately things were not going well for Pepper. Countless blood tests had been ran, and after finding abnormalities that hinted at an invasive virus, a team from the CDC had been called in. Pepper had been questioned about the attack, but she acted confused and disoriented, knowing that the truth would cause more problems for her. Now she was really kicking herself for not telling Leo everything sooner. Now it would be more difficult, and she worried that she would now be a threat to them. She didn't know what effects the mutagen would have on her, and knew this could be a work in progress. What would she become? Would she become dangerous? The possibilities frightened her.

    So far her only noticeable attributes were her strength. She had unintentionally hurt one of the male nurses when he tried to restrain her for testing. Her usually brown eyes took on a reddish tent when agitated, and her movements were quicker. She had also learned that at some point in her life, she had been trained in self defense and it had aided her in breaking the poor man's arm. She was still a mystery to herself, and she feared that this 'virus' would completely wipe away every last part of her that she had known.

    It had been hours since any of the staff dared to venture into her isolation room. She was feeling hopeless, lost and abandoned. She paced the room in her hospital gown, feeling like a crazed animal. Every now and then she would step up to the thick glass window and look out, hoping to see a familiar face. She needed to speak with Leo and tell him everything... but would being in contact with him put him in danger? Could she really chance that?

    Everything was so unclear. But one thing was for certain, she needed to get out of this 'prison'.

    Leo was up early the next morning. He had gone to beed shortly after he talked to April. He was worried about Pepper but not being able to do anything, he went to bed to try and sleep. He wasn't sure how much sleep he got, but he woke still tired. He had hoped to have heard from April again by now and it worried him that he hadn't.

    He made his way to the kitchen and started a pot of coffee. He would call Raph soon and let him know that he needed to get back to the city so they could come up with a plan of action.

    Leo sat down at the kitchen table and put his head in his hand. So much had happen and he wasn't sure what to do. He knew that his brothers depended on him for plans and direction, he couldn't let them down.He sighed deeply and rubbed his eyes. Maybe his father would have some idea of what to do.

    Bishop hadn't slept that night, and he didn't have to to be honest. He was busy with projects, Pepper and the mousers that Baxter left in his care. He honestly had no use for the robots, but it wasn't like Baxter was doing anything with them so he took them and released them into the city and sewer.

    The morning came quickly for Bishop. He made his way to the hospital and went up to where Pepper was being kept. At first he wasn't allowed to get to close to Pepper, but after some threatning he was let into her room.

    "Having fun? I'm here to get you out of here." He told her. "So, lets get your things and go."

    ---------------------------------

    The mousers were slowly eating their way through the city tunnels and streets. They were taking care of the rodent problem so no one was paying them much mind. The robots soon made there way into a dark warehouse. There were rats everywhere and the mousers started to take them out one by one.

    Pepper watched through the window as Bishop came into her sights. She expected him to only have access to her through the glass, so it came as a shock when he was granted access. She quickly backed up, putting distance between herself and Bishop. Her eyes narrowed dangerously at him when he told her to come with him.

    "I'm not going anywhere with you." She hissed. "What... did you do to me?"

    Bishop didn't expect that Pepper would agree to go with him right away. He sat down on the blue chair that was in the corner of the room and folded his legs, hands together on his lap.

    "pepper. I have given you a gift. A new life. You will be stronger, faster,wounds will heal quickly and if all goes right, you'll have no visible effects of the mutagen. Of course, I can't promise that you wont sprout fangs or something."

    He stood up and moved over to her. "The doctors here can't help you. I'm confiscating all their blood samples they took from you. I need you to come back to the lab with me, run a few test, then you are free to go."

    ...and all of those were effects that she had noticed. Strength, speed, and an acceleration in healing. Her deep wounds that she expected to leave scars were almost completely healed, but the bandages remained in place so the doctors wouldn't be even more alarmed than they already were.

    He had gotten rid of the blood test? When he mentioned that he had given her a gift, she became confused. "Why.. would you do that? Why me?" Because she was nothing spectacular and her alliances weren't with him, why would he waste his time?

    Donatello hadn't slept well at all. He tried but kept tossing and turning, only making his fatigue worse. And what was worse, was he didn't have any of his belongings to keep himself occupied for yet another sleepless night. All he had was April's coffee -- which wasn't horrible, but it wasn't nearly as strong as he preferred.

    Nothing was the same to him. He didn't have his bedmate beside him, none of projects to keep his mind occupied, not even all of his family. It made him miss Rini even more since he wasn't sure about her condition. The last he heard, she was stable, but that wasn't enough reassurance to him. He needed to see her for himself.

    Unfortunately, right now, that was too risky. They were being hunted and there was no telling whether their enemies knew where they were or not. It was best to stay put for now. But everyone had come to the same conclusion: they were better off staying at the farmhouse.

    After Don was sure he wouldn't be getting any more sleep, he got up and made himself a pot of coffee then sat down at the table with a cup of the steaming liquid, not drinking it but just holding the mug in both of his hands, and his eyes were closed. Almost as if in light meditation. His phone was laying on the table beside him for easy access, though.

    However, when Leo entered the kitchen, he lifted his head and opened his eyes, giving him a small greeting, "Hi..." It was very evident that he didn't get much sleep either.

    Of course. She was nothing more to him than a disposable lab rat. But that only meant that he had another project in the works. Something greater. Something that he couldn't mess up. He decision still stood... until her mind began to run wild. He was the only one that understood the mutagen that now coursed through her veins. He was the only one that could give her insight on what it would do to her, and she needed answers. Otherwise, she could never trust herself around her friends. If she stayed her, God only knew what would happen to her.

    "...okay." She finally nodded. "But, after the tests, I go free." She reminded him.

    Post by Lexi on Sun May 05, 2013 12:04 pm

    Unfortunately for Lexi, she had gotten little sleep last night. Her fatigue induced slumber had been interrupted by horrible nightmares; a mentally lethal concoction of her past traumas. The rape, witnessing Gabe's death, and her near fatal brush with Bishop and his mousers during his first attack. Of course, there was a lot more, but thankfully her unconscious mind only had time to replay a fraction before she was jolted from her torment. Her body was trembling, quiet tears streaming down her cheeks. She wanted to snuggle back against Raph, needed to feel safe and secure, but feared that her quiet sobs would wake him, and she would have to interrupt Phin to do so. He didn't need this. Her boyfriend had enough demons of his own. It would be cruel to wake him.

    She quietly slipped out of bed and grabbed her phone, then headed into the kitchen. She glanced at the time and realized that it was only 3 AM. Great. It would be one hell of a long day, made worse by her uncontrollable emotions. She snagged a few beers from the fridge and sat at the table, indulging in the cold alcohol. She needed the release it would hopefully give her. A trembling hand reached up to wipe at the tears that continued to fall and she inwardly cursed herself for not having better control over herself. This was how people went crazy, and she had went through enough to push her over the edge of sanity. But she kept holding on by a thread. But how long would that thin fiber hold her from falling? One snip and her world could officially come crashing down.

    She sat there for what felt like forever, drinking until woozy, then drank some more. But even the alcohol couldn't stop the tears, nor could it stop the torment in her mind. She needed a little assistance, and Ace quickly came to mind. She glanced at the time again, 4:00. It was early still, but she hoped that he would be up. Surely he was. He was probably still up having sex with his new wife. Because that's what happy people with happy lives did. With a tinge of hesitation that was soon eased by her need, she dialed his number and waited for him to pick up. Luckily it didn't take long and he agreed to make the long trip to the farmhouse to provide her with marijuana and valium, but of course, his services and willingness to make the long drive would come with a price, but money wasn't an object at the moment. She just needed some relief.

    She looked down and realized that she was adorning nothing but her underwear and knew that she couldn't greet him like this. As stealthily as her drunkenness would allow, she slipped into Laz' bedroom and snagged one of his baggy shirts and slipped it on. She would have to apologize later. She hated this. Feeling so needy and helpless. This was a far cry of what she was two years ago. She was only a shadow of that person, and had now been reduced to borrowing clothes. Of course she had her own, and lots of them, but being without did little for her psyche.

    After Ace's visit, she took her drugs and a few bottles of booze, and headed to the old barn. She didn't want to smoke indoors where the kids were, so she headed up to the loft. She felt so isolated and alone, and really needed someone to talk to, but she knew that she was probably creating a wedge between Laz and Aeris. She couldn't talk to Raph because she knew it would make him feel guilty since some of her trauma had come from simply knowing him. She had nobody else, she realized. Everyone hated her. Even the girlfriends of Raph's brothers, they really didn't seem to like her. They never talked to her or really tried to be social. More tears rolled down her cheeks as she popped the pills and chased them with alcohol. What had she ever done to be this hated?

    The fact that Ace and Ally had made a visit had not go unnoticed by Aeris. She had been awoken by the sound of Ace's vehicle, and even though Lexi and the drug dealer had kept their dealing outside, she had a pretty good idea of what was going on. She sighed inwardly, deciding it was not her business, and had managed to go back to sleep.

    Now it was 8:30 and she woke before Laz. She leaned in and pressed a kiss against her sleeping boyfriend's forehead, then carefully slipped out of bed. He had had a long night, and she wanted to let him sleep in. Besides, she wanted to make breakfast for him, and their house guests. Even if she wasn't too pleased that a certain someone was here, she would try to be nice. For him.

    She slipped into her housecoat and headed into the kitchen, not expecting to see the table littered with empty beer bottles. There was at least five, and all had been completely drained. Raph... She scuffed inwardly, knowing the mutant liked his booze. Then again, it could have been Gabe, but the ex thug was quickly thrown out of the equation as he walked, all too soberly into the kitchen, little Raven resting against his shoulder. Apparently he was taking care of the little one and letting Seren catch up on her sleep. It was a sweet gesture and it softened her mood a little to see what a good father he had become. Obviously he was not responsible for the empty beer bottles.

    "Wow. Looks like someone partied it up last night." He quietly commented as he began preparing a bottle for his newborn daughter.

    Aeris sighed deeply, her irritation seeping back through as she debated cleaning up the mess. "Yeah." She answered shortly, her mood now apparent. "I have a very strong feeling it was your ex." She told him, deciding that it was not her job to clean up someone else's mess. She wanted Laz to see it. Maybe he would have a stern talk with her. Thinking back to Ace's visit, she was almost certain that Lexi was indeed responsible.

    Gabe gave her a look of confusion. "Lex is here?" He asked, having no idea that she had returned last night.

    "Yeah." Aeris huffed. "Wherever Laz is, Lexi's bound to turn up... and I know I can't be the only one to notice that."

    Laz was sleeping peacefully, until the girls ran into his room and woke him. Ivy was very happy to see her new father and snuggled up beside him. Belle jumped up and down on the bed asking if they could go see Remey.

    "Yes we'll go see daddy today." He told her and grabbed both girls hugging them tightly. "But first breakfast. You two go meet me in the kitchen." He noticed that Aeris was gone and figured she was already in the kitchen. "Go help Aeris and I'll be right out."

    He kissed their cheeks and shooed them out. He then got up and got dressed then left the room.

    He walked into the kitchen and seen all the bottles. His first thought was Raph. "that turtle is going to have one hell of a hang over." He commented and started to clean up.

    Gabriel didn't know what to say about Aeris' last comment. Yeah, he had picked up on Lexi and Laz' 'closeness', but he wasn't a chick so really didn't over-think it. "Eh, I think they're just best friends." He commented casually, figuring that's what the girl needed to hear. He glanced over at her as he waited for the bottle to warm up and noticed that this only seemed to add to her irritation. What did she want to hear, that she was right and those two were fucking behind everyone's backs? Pfft. There just wasn't any winning with the female gender.

    Not wanting to stick around negative company, he took the bottle and headed into the den to feed his daughter in peace. He passed Laz on his way out, and gave him a sympathetic look. "Good luck, bro. Yer girl's on a war path." He warned.

    Aeris honestly didn't know what she wanted to hear. The truth would be nice, and it seemed that Gabe was defending Lexi. Of course he was! She was growing hotter by the second, and when the girls rushed into the kitchen to help her, she began regretting not cleaning up the bottles. They caught Ivy's interest and she climbed into a chair to get a closer look. Beer bottles were nothing new to the little girl. They seemed to always surround her mom, so she associated them with her. She reached and grabbed one before her father could clear them all off the table, and hugged it close to her.

    "Mommy was here..." She chimed, her innocent comment causing Aeris' breath to catch in her throat. But her irritation returned as she heard Laz' comment. "No, I'm pretty sure Raph isn't responsible." She told him, and finally decided to help him with the table. "It's her.." She huffed, knowing she wouldn't have to elaborate. "And this isn't all she's doing. Ace was here early this morning..."

    Laz took the bottle from Ivy and kissed her little cheek. "Don't play with these. they're bad." He told her, he wouldn't comment on her mother and just let the girl believe what she wanted, though there would come a time when he would have to have a talk witht he little girl.

    Hearing Aeris he frowned deeply. lexi was free to do what she wanted, but not with kids running around, especially if she was going to leave her trash everywhere. "I'll have a talk with her." He said. He glanced out the window and saw the barn door open.

    "I'll be right back." He told aeris sounding annoyed. He kissed her lips then headed outside. He jogged to the barn and went in. "Lexi? You in here?"

    Aeris was glad that Laz would talk to her. He sounded annoyed, so maybe something would get done. When he left, she tried her best to push down her agitation and pulled out everything to make breakfast, letting the little ones help her as much as they could, and acting as if they were a bigger help than they actually were.

    Lexi laid there, curled up on the loft floor. The strewn hey provided a little cushioning against the hard wood, but she was numb to her physical discomfort. The emotional torment was still there, gnawing away at her, despite the sedation of the drugs. Her eyes were red and swollen from too many hours of crying, and she stared almost blankly at the thick mutilating scars on her wrists. She wasn't perfect anymore. Her skin was flawed, the angry pink scars screaming of her past torment. She wasn't pretty anymore. Her nails dug into her wrist as if she could make the marks go away, but only succeeded in puncturing her flesh, causing herself to bleed. At least she felt the physical discomfort, but it wasn't what brought on the sorrowful scream. It was a sign of her mental exhaustion and the inward battle that was tearing her apart, piece by piece.

    A familiar voice managed to penetrate her haze, causing her to push herself up. It was Laz... or was she just imagining him? Whatever the case, she did not want him to see her like this so she kept quiet, but her earlier tormented outcry should have given him some indication of her location...

    Laz sighed and went over to where he heard Lexi. He looked down at the girl then moved to her side. "Lexi." He said softly. "We need to talk." He laid a hand on her shoulder. she wasn't doing well, he could clearly see that. But she couldn't let her emotions mess with the kids.

    "Come here." He pulled her on to his lap and held her against him. "What's going on?"

    ..but it seemed that Laz would find her. She didn't move as he climbed into the loft, and just watched him approach with hollow, unblinking eyes. She wanted nothing more than to curl up into a ball and just shut herself off from everything, but his touch brought her around... he always had that effect on her. It took everything she had to push herself up, and soon she found herself on his lap. She wanted to spare him of this, and thought about pulling away, but she needed her best friend more than anything right now.

    She wrapped her shaky arms around him, blood dripping down her wrist from the fresh punctures, but she seemed oblivious. She completely melted against him, burying her face against his shoulder as she tried to muffle her sobs.

    "I'm.. sorry.."

    Casey and April spent a lot of time together while they were at the hospital. They talked about everything. It was like twenty questions, only longer. Casey was just happy to be in the presence with the woman he intended to spend the rest of his unusual life with. After all, it wasn't every day a hot babe found it hot that a grown man spent time with budding teens, mutant turtle teens no less. He realized they just clicked like that.

    The hospital was a rather odd place to discuss such life topics and importance but it was better than nothing. It had a certain 'homey' feel to it. Rather, a comfortableness to be had in the company of total strangers visiting a sick family member. April woke up before him but Casey shot both eyes open when she placed a warm kiss on his rugged cheek. "Alright. Hey, be careful... An' get me some bacon!" he shouted.

    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    Rat King had been entertaining his loyal subjects with talk of their 'Ratocracy', a form of democracy that had yet to see the light of day. In his abandoned warehouse, His-Royal-Rodent-Majesty declared humanity a futile people to his army of rats. They began to squeak in approval as he gave a mad cackle that echoed through the haunting building, like a waling ghost.
    "Yeeees, my soldiers! We must go topside and reclaim the surface world for ourselves! It is our destiny!" the mummified figure assured with a raise of his fist. The rats all stood in unison and lifted their heads to the fattened rodent resting on Rat King's shoulder - his name was Ben. Ben scouted the army Rat King planned to use and though he was displeased, it would work.
    Socrates was in the palm of his wrapped hand as his master glanced down at him with a maniacal grin; he squeaked back. "Come! Let us take-" but his announcement was cut short when the sound of robotic parts began marching through the streets. The sounds of cybernetic footsteps pounded the ground beneath them as Rat King quickly moved over to the boarded window.
    "... I think we're in trouble, my loyal subjects! Quick - form a line and do not give up! We will prevail!... We will always prevail!" he encouraged them while knowing that these so-called Mousers were nothing more than a nuisance. Rat King and his rats would stand their ground, clutching a lead pipe for good measure. It was time. Time for the world to realize that such inferior beings could never stop the Rat King!
    April flashed Casey a grin and a nod then hurried off. She got to the room where Pepper was being kept only to see her and Bishop head out the hospital. She was in shock to say the least. It didn't look like a kidnapping, and why was the hospital letting her go if she was so sick? Did Bishop know what was wrong with her? Probably.
    She checked in on Rini who was sleeping and doing well. She wasn't out of the woods yet, but it was looking promising. Finally some good news to tell Don.
    She left Rini to rest and quickly headed to the food court to grab some breakfast for the her and Casey. She was also thinking of what to tell the guys about Bishop and Pepper. It seemed Pepper was ok being with the man, did she know him? Did she work for him? Was she setting Leo up?
    She got the breakfast and lots of bacon for Casey and grabbed a couple of drinks then went back up to him. She returned to her seat on the couch and handed Casey the styrofoam box that held his breakfast.
    "I have to call the guys." she told him. "I just seen Pepper and Bishop walk out of here together. Something is going on."
It took everything she had to push herself up, and soon she found herself on his lap. She wanted to spare him of this, and thought about pulling away, but she needed her best friend more than anything right now.
    She wrapped her shaky arms around him, blood dripping down her wrist from the fresh punctures, but she seemed oblivious. She completely melted against him, burying her face against his shoulder as she tried to muffle her sobs.
    "I'm.. sorry.."
    "It's not me that you need to be telling sorry to." Laz told her. "I know you're upset and things are really hard right now. But you have to remember that there are kids around. Ivy saw the beer bottles. She thought her mother had returned. She doesn't need that." He said sternly.
    "You have to get a grip, Lexi. I'm telling you this as your friend. You have kids that depend on you. They need you sober and well. I need you sober and well.So does Raph."
    He squeezed her and rubbed her back. "You've been through hell, I get that. And you know I'm here for you when you need me. I hate seeing you like this. Things will get better, lexi. Don't go making it worse by becoming some druggie. I heard Ace was here. If he was any kind of friend he wouldn't have given you anything."
    Raphael has slept a little better than he expected to. He was just that tired. They had all been under tremendous stress lately but Raph's poor body couldn't take anymore. But just because his body was more rested, he was still very much fatigued mentally.
    Things had changed very rapidly and Raph still wasn't liking the fact that he was separated from the rest of his family. He really did need his brothers and father and he missed them terribly. The only reason he was here was to be the supportive boyfriend he needed to be for Lexi. And of course to be there for his son.
    Speaking of his son, when Lexi left, it hadn't dragged Raph from his slumber, but since his son noticed his 'mother' was missing, Phoenix was becoming restless. All that squirming had alerted Raph and now he was awake, trying to calm his son.
    He didn't know where Lexi was but just assumed she was only going to be gone for a short time. He had no idea she was in the middle of a severe mental breakdown. He just stayed in bed a little while longer, whispering reassurances to Phoenix that Lexi would be back soon.
    If she wasn't back soon, he would go looking for her.
    Bishop led Pepper to his car and opened the door for her. He then got in the drivers side and took off. "Tell me, how are you feeling right now. and be very detailed."
